Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in banking, financial services, technology, shared services, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and tourism. Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley are the main corporate hubs, while Penang and Johor also attract international employers. The country combines Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences, reflected in its food, festivals, languages, and religious traditions. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in Singapore, although central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. Malaysia has modern transport, diverse cuisine, tropical weather, beaches, and accessible islands such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, and the Perhentians. Foreign professionals normally require employer-sponsored authorization, commonly an Employment Pass; approval depends on qualifications, salary, role, and company eligibility. Relocating employees should arrange a valid passport, employment documentation, housing, healthcare coverage, tax registration, and local banking. Learning basic Malay and respecting cultural and religious customs makes settling in easier.
