Working in Malaysia

Malaysia is not one island but a multicultural country divided between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia on Borneo, with attractive islands such as Langkawi, Penang, and Tioman. Job opportunities are strong in logistics, shared services, finance, technology, manufacturing, healthcare, and regional headquarters, especially around Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Johor. Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Indigenous influences shape the culture, while English is widely used in business. Living costs are generally moderate, with Kuala Lumpur offering urban convenience, international schools, restaurants, and public transport. Malaysia has a tropical climate, excellent food, beaches, and convenient regional travel. Foreign professionals normally need employer-sponsored authorization, commonly an Employment Pass, before starting work. Employers usually handle the application, while applicants provide qualifications, passport details, and supporting documents. Relocating workers should arrange housing, healthcare coverage, banking, tax registration, and suitable schooling if moving with family.
