Malaysia offers opportunities in technology, logistics, supply chain, shared services, manufacturing, finance and e-commerce, especially around Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Johor. The country combines modern cities with diverse Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous cultures, excellent food and relatively affordable living costs. Kuala Lumpur is the main corporate hub, while Penang is known for technology and manufacturing, and Sabah and Sarawak offer a more relaxed lifestyle with beaches, forests and island destinations. Malaysia is not a single island; it includes Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo, plus popular islands such as Langkawi, Penang and Tioman. Foreign employees generally need employer-sponsored work authorisation, commonly an Employment Pass, arranged before starting work. Relocation packages may cover flights, temporary accommodation, insurance or visa costs, but this varies by employer. English is widely used in business, although Malay is the national language.
