An Operations Ramp Agent supports the safe and efficient movement of aircraft, freight, baggage and equipment on the airport ramp. Typical requirements include the ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays; physical fitness for loading and unloading tasks; good communication; reliable attendance; and compliance with strict aviation, security and safety procedures. A driving licence may be required, along with airport security clearance and eligibility to work in the United Kingdom. DHL expects candidates to be safety-conscious, punctual, team-oriented and comfortable working outdoors in changing weather. Previous airport, cargo-handling, warehouse or logistics experience is helpful, although training may be provided.
DHL is a global logistics and supply-chain company operating across more than 220 countries and territories. It provides international express delivery, freight transportation, warehousing, contract logistics, e-commerce fulfilment and supply-chain management services. DHL’s aviation and airport operations connect businesses and consumers through time-critical movement of parcels and freight. The company is part of DHL Group and employs hundreds of thousands of people worldwide across divisions including DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding, DHL Supply Chain and DHL eCommerce. In the United Kingdom, DHL operates transport hubs, warehouses, depots and airport facilities, supporting customers in sectors such as retail, manufacturing, healthcare and technology. Its workplace places strong emphasis on safety, operational reliability, teamwork, customer service, compliance and sustainability. Ramp-based employees are an important part of the company’s time-sensitive air-freight network.
The United Kingdom offers substantial opportunities in logistics, aviation, warehousing, transport, technology, healthcare and professional services. Major employment centres include London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast, with airport and freight roles often located near Heathrow, East Midlands, Manchester and other transport hubs. British workplace culture generally values punctuality, politeness, clear communication, personal responsibility and respect for procedures. Lifestyle varies from busy urban living to quieter coastal and rural communities, with good public transport in larger cities but higher housing costs in southern England. Non-UK and non-Irish citizens normally need a visa and the right to work; employer sponsorship depends on the occupation and visa route, while many entry-level ramp roles may not qualify for sponsorship. Relocation planning should include accommodation, transport, National Insurance, tax, healthcare registration and shift-work arrangements.
