The Portfolio Manager, Case Management (Employee Relations Manager) is responsible for overseeing complex employee-relations cases across Qantas. Requirements typically include substantial experience in employee relations, workplace investigations, case management, industrial relations or employment law, together with strong knowledge of Australian workplace legislation. The successful candidate should be confident advising leaders, managing sensitive and confidential matters, interpreting policies and awards, and handling competing priorities. Qantas will expect sound judgement, excellent written and verbal communication, strong stakeholder-management skills and the ability to provide practical, fair and timely advice. Experience leading case portfolios, improving processes and working in a large, unionised or highly regulated organisation would be highly valuable.
Qantas Airways Limited is Australia’s flagship airline and one of the world’s longest-operating airlines. Founded in 1920, the Qantas Group provides domestic and international passenger services, freight operations and related aviation businesses through brands including Qantas and Jetstar. Its network connects Australian cities with destinations across Asia, Europe, North America, New Zealand and the Pacific. Qantas employs a large, diverse workforce covering flight operations, engineering, airport services, customer experience, technology, corporate functions and specialist professional roles. The company places strong emphasis on safety, operational reliability, customer service and maintaining a capable workforce. Headquartered in Sydney, Qantas offers opportunities in major Australian cities and at airports throughout the country. As a large, highly regulated employer, it provides a complex environment for human-resources professionals, particularly those experienced in employee relations, industrial relations, workforce policy and organisational change.
Australia is an island continent with strong employment opportunities in aviation, healthcare, technology, construction, education, finance, mining, tourism and professional services. Major job markets include Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, while regional areas may offer opportunities and migration incentives in selected occupations. Australian workplaces are generally professional, collaborative and relatively informal, with emphasis on workplace safety, inclusion and clear employment rights. Lifestyle varies from busy city living to coastal, rural and outdoor-focused communities; housing and transport costs can be high in Sydney and Melbourne. Skilled overseas workers may need an employer-sponsored visa, skilled migration visa or another eligible work permit. Requirements depend on occupation, qualifications, English ability, age and experience. Relocating usually involves arranging visa approval, health insurance, accommodation, tax registration and a bank account. Qantas roles may also require eligibility to work in Australia and airport security clearances.
