Australia offers strong employment opportunities in technology, cyber security, aviation, engineering, healthcare, construction, education and professional services. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Perth are the main centres for corporate and technology work, although housing and commuting costs vary significantly. Australian culture is generally informal, multicultural and outdoors-oriented, with an emphasis on work-life balance, sport, beaches and community life. The lifestyle can be excellent, but major-city rent, childcare and transport costs may be high. Skilled professionals usually need an appropriate visa, such as an employer-sponsored Skills in Demand visa, state-nominated skilled visa or permanent skilled visa. Requirements depend on occupation, qualifications, English ability, age and experience. Applicants should check current rules through the Australian Department of Home Affairs. Relocating commonly involves securing employment, arranging health insurance, opening a bank account and obtaining tax and housing documentation.
