As a Postal Delivery Driver (Postie) with Royal Mail, you will collect, sort and deliver letters and parcels safely and on time across an assigned route. The role involves driving or walking outdoors in varied weather, regularly lifting and carrying mail, using handheld technology and providing friendly service to customers. Candidates should have a full UK or suitable driving licence where driving is required, good geographic awareness, reliability, physical fitness and the ability to work independently. You should be comfortable managing time, following delivery procedures, handling confidential items responsibly and representing Royal Mail professionally. Previous delivery or customer-service experience is useful but training is generally provided.
Royal Mail Group is one of the United Kingdom’s best-known delivery and logistics organisations. Its principal businesses include Royal Mail, which delivers letters and parcels throughout the UK, and international parcel company GLS. The group operates an extensive network of delivery offices, processing centres, vehicles and logistics facilities, serving households, businesses and public-sector customers. Royal Mail remains closely associated with the UK’s universal postal service, while also developing parcel, ecommerce and international delivery services. Employees work in areas including delivery, transport, engineering, processing, customer service, technology and corporate support. The organisation places emphasis on safety, dependable service, teamwork and serving local communities. Working conditions can be physically demanding, particularly for outdoor delivery staff, but the company typically provides structured training, established procedures and opportunities to progress within a large national employer.
The United Kingdom offers employment opportunities in logistics, transport, healthcare, technology, finance, hospitality, construction and public services. Its culture combines regional traditions, multicultural cities, historic communities and a strong interest in sport, music and the arts. Lifestyle varies from busy urban living in London, Manchester or Edinburgh to quieter coastal and rural areas. Public transport is extensive, although a car may be useful for delivery work outside cities. Overseas applicants should check whether the employer sponsors visas; a job offer alone does not automatically provide the right to work. The Skilled Worker route generally requires an eligible occupation, an approved sponsor and salary requirements, while other routes may apply to eligible nationals or family members. Plan for deposits, rent, transport and healthcare-related costs, and verify licence requirements before relocating. UK weather is changeable, so outdoor workers need suitable clothing and footwear.
