As a Postal Delivery Driver (Postie) with Royal Mail, you will collect, sort and deliver letters and parcels safely and on time across an allocated route. The role requires a full UK driving licence, safe and confident driving skills, good physical fitness, and the ability to work outdoors in changing weather. You should be reliable, organised, customer-focused and comfortable working independently while meeting delivery targets. You may need to lift and carry parcels, use handheld technology, follow delivery procedures and maintain professional standards when dealing with customers. Flexibility is important because shifts can include early mornings, weekends and busy seasonal periods. Previous delivery experience is helpful but is not always essential, as training is generally provided.
Royal Mail Group is one of the United Kingdom’s best-known delivery and logistics organisations. Its businesses include Royal Mail, which delivers letters and parcels across the UK, and international parcel and logistics services through associated operations. The company serves households, businesses and public-sector organisations, supported by a large network of delivery offices, sorting centres, vehicles and collection points. Postal delivery employees are central to its service, connecting communities and helping customers receive important correspondence, online purchases and business shipments. Royal Mail places emphasis on reliability, customer service, safety and teamwork. The organisation employs people in many operational, transport, engineering, technology, commercial and corporate roles. Workloads can increase significantly during Christmas and other peak trading periods, making flexibility and resilience valuable qualities for candidates.
The United Kingdom offers employment opportunities in logistics, transport, healthcare, technology, construction, hospitality, finance and professional services. Its culture is diverse and generally informal, with strong traditions around punctuality, personal privacy, sport and community life. Lifestyle varies widely: London and other major cities offer extensive services and entertainment but have high housing costs, while smaller towns and rural areas may provide a quieter and more affordable setting. Most overseas workers need permission to work before arrival. A Skilled Worker visa requires an eligible occupation, an approved sponsoring employer and meeting salary and English-language rules; postal delivery roles are not normally a straightforward sponsorship route, so applicants should confirm eligibility carefully. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens generally need immigration permission unless they hold settled or pre-settled status. Relocating also requires budgeting for rent, deposits, transport, healthcare-related costs and national insurance.
