As a Postal Delivery Driver (Postie), you will collect, sort and deliver letters and parcels safely and on time across an assigned route. The role involves driving or walking in varied weather, handling mail, using handheld technology and providing courteous customer service. Candidates should have a valid UK driving licence where driving is required, good local-area knowledge, reasonable fitness and the ability to manage physical work, deadlines and changing volumes. Reliability, punctuality, teamwork, attention to detail and a professional attitude are essential. Previous delivery experience is helpful but training is generally provided. You must be comfortable working independently and adapting to early starts, busy periods and regular outdoor work.
Royal Mail Group is one of the United Kingdom’s best-known delivery organisations, serving households and businesses throughout the country. Its operations include Royal Mail, which delivers letters and parcels, and Parcelforce Worldwide, which focuses on express parcel services. The company operates a large national network of sorting centres, delivery offices, vehicles and postboxes, supported by thousands of postpeople, drivers and operational colleagues. Royal Mail plays an important role in connecting communities and businesses, particularly through its universal postal service obligations. Employees typically work in fast-moving environments where safety, reliability, customer service and teamwork are important. Depending on the position, the company may offer structured training, staff benefits, pension arrangements and opportunities to progress into operational, supervisory or specialist roles.
The United Kingdom offers opportunities in logistics, delivery, warehousing, transport, healthcare, hospitality, technology and professional services. Its culture combines strong regional identities, historic traditions and diverse modern communities. Lifestyle varies from busy cities such as London, Manchester and Edinburgh to quieter rural and coastal areas. Public transport is extensive, although a car may be useful for delivery work outside cities. Living costs, especially housing, are highest in London and the southeast. Visa requirements depend on nationality: non-UK and non-Irish citizens usually need immigration permission, and many overseas workers require employer sponsorship under an eligible work route. Irish citizens can generally live and work freely under the Common Travel Area. Before relocating, check official UK government visa rules, employment conditions, accommodation costs, tax, healthcare access and driving-licence requirements. Weather is changeable, so outdoor workers should prepare for rain, wind and cold.
