As a Postal Delivery Driver (Postie) with Royal Mail, you will sort and deliver letters and parcels safely and on time, usually using a company vehicle or walking part of your round. Requirements typically include a full UK or eligible driving licence where driving is required, good physical fitness, reliability, customer-service skills and the ability to work outdoors in changing weather. Candidates should be organised, punctual and comfortable working independently while meeting delivery targets. A responsible approach to road safety, accurate handling of mail and a willingness to work early starts, weekends or seasonal overtime are expected. Training is generally provided, but previous driving, delivery or customer-facing experience is useful.

About the employer

Royal Mail Group is one of the United Kingdom's best-known postal and delivery organisations. Its operations include Royal Mail, which delivers letters and parcels across the UK, and other logistics and international services associated with the group. The company serves households, businesses and public-sector customers through a nationwide network of delivery offices, processing centres and posties. Royal Mail has a long-established role in connecting communities, particularly through its universal postal service obligations. Employees work in a practical, customer-focused environment where safety, reliability and meeting delivery commitments are important. Roles may offer structured training, employee benefits and opportunities to progress into supervisory, transport, operations or specialist logistics positions. Working conditions can be physically demanding and may involve early mornings, outdoor work and busy periods such as Christmas.

Working in United Kingdom

The United Kingdom offers opportunities in logistics, parcel delivery, warehousing, transport, healthcare, hospitality, technology and professional services, with London and major cities generally providing the widest choice. British culture values punctuality, personal space, politeness and workplace professionalism, while communities are diverse and internationally minded. Lifestyle varies from busy urban living to quieter coastal and rural areas; public transport is strongest in larger cities, and housing costs can be high, especially in London and the South East. Weather is changeable, so practical clothing is useful. Anyone taking paid work must have the appropriate immigration permission. EU, EEA and Swiss nationals generally need a visa unless they hold settled or pre-settled status. A Skilled Worker visa requires an eligible sponsored role, and ordinary postal delivery jobs may not qualify or offer sponsorship. Check GOV.UK requirements before relocating.
