Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel and manufacturing, tourism, information technology, finance, logistics, education and professional services. Colombo and nearby Western Province are the main business centres, while Kandy, Galle and other cities provide growing opportunities. The culture is diverse, welcoming and influenced by Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and colonial traditions. English is widely used in business, while Sinhala and Tamil are the official languages. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in many global cities, although Colombo accommodation can be expensive. Public transport is affordable, and the island is known for beaches, mountains, wildlife and historic sites. Foreign nationals normally require an appropriate employment visa or residence authorisation arranged with employer support; tourist status does not permit regular employment. Relocating candidates should confirm sponsorship, taxation, healthcare, accommodation and work-permit requirements before accepting an offer.
