The Product Development Center (PDC) Intern supports the development of innovative apparel, textile, and product solutions from concept through sampling. Candidates are generally expected to be current undergraduates or recent graduates in fashion design, textile technology, product development, engineering, or a related discipline. Strong interest in apparel innovation, materials, garment construction, and design is important. The role may involve research, preparing specifications, assisting with prototypes and samples, documenting findings, coordinating with technical teams, and using design or office software. MAS is likely to expect creativity, attention to detail, willingness to learn, teamwork, good communication, time management, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Practical knowledge of textiles, sewing, pattern development, or product testing would be an advantage.
MAS Holdings is one of South Asia’s largest apparel and textile manufacturers and a major exporter from Sri Lanka. Founded in 1987, the privately held group works with leading international sportswear, lingerie, fashion, and lifestyle brands. Its capabilities cover design, product development, manufacturing, supply chain services, and advanced textile innovation. MAS operates facilities and offices across Sri Lanka and several international markets, employing a large workforce across diverse technical, creative, and corporate functions. The company is widely associated with ethical manufacturing, sustainability, employee development, and innovation. Its Product Development Centers support the creation of new materials, garments, technologies, and commercial solutions, making an internship there particularly relevant for students interested in apparel design, textile technology, engineering, and manufacturing research.
Sri Lanka offers career opportunities in apparel and textile manufacturing, product development, engineering, information technology, tourism, finance, logistics, and shared services. Colombo and the Western Province provide the largest concentration of professional roles, while industrial zones and regional cities also support manufacturing employment. The island’s culture combines Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial influences, with Buddhism playing a significant role. Life is generally affordable compared with many international destinations, and residents enjoy beaches, mountains, wildlife, historic sites, and varied cuisine. Colombo has modern conveniences, while smaller towns offer a quieter lifestyle. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored employment or residence visa to work legally; a tourist visa does not permit employment. Before relocating, candidates should confirm sponsorship, contract terms, accommodation, healthcare, taxation, and transport arrangements with the employer. Interns should also verify whether the placement is open to international applicants.
