Healthcare New Zealand is a major provider of home-based support and community health services across New Zealand. The organisation supports older people, people living with disabilities, individuals requiring mental health assistance and others who need help to live safely and independently in their homes and communities. Its services can include personal care, household support, rehabilitation assistance, nursing and community-based wellbeing programmes. Support Workers are central to this model, helping clients maintain choice, dignity, routines and connections with their local communities. The company generally places strong emphasis on person-centred care, respect, reliability, cultural sensitivity and safe work practices. Roles may involve varied schedules, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, depending on client needs. Employment conditions, training, pay rates and benefits can vary by position, collective agreement, qualifications and region.
New Zealand offers opportunities in healthcare, aged care, disability support, construction, hospitality, technology, agriculture and education. Auckland, on the North Island, is the country’s largest employment centre and has a diverse, multicultural population. Wellington is known for government, technology and creative industries, while Christchurch and Queenstown provide opportunities in health, engineering, tourism and trades. The North Island is generally warmer and more urban; the South Island is renowned for mountains, outdoor activities and a quieter lifestyle. New Zealand culture values friendliness, informality, work-life balance, inclusion and respect for Māori heritage and tikanga. Living costs, especially rent, can be high in Auckland and major cities. Overseas applicants should check Immigration New Zealand rules, including Accredited Employer Work Visas, occupation requirements, English or registration conditions and employer accreditation. Plan accommodation, transport, healthcare access and proof of funds before relocating.
