About the employer

Healthcare New Zealand is a major provider of health, disability, mental health and community support services across New Zealand. Its teams work with older people, people living with disabilities, individuals recovering from illness or injury, and people needing support to live safely and independently. Services may be delivered in clients’ homes, residential settings and local communities. The organisation focuses on person-centred care, respecting individual choice, wellbeing, cultural identity and dignity. Support workers are an important part of its frontline workforce, helping clients with everyday activities and connecting them with their communities. Employment conditions can vary by service, region, qualifications and collective or individual agreements. The company generally looks for dependable people who are comfortable working independently while collaborating with coordinators, nurses, families and other professionals.

Working in New Zealand

New Zealand’s North and South Islands both offer opportunities in healthcare, aged care, disability support, hospitality, construction, agriculture, technology and education. The North Island has larger employment centres such as Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton and Tauranga, while the South Island offers roles in Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown and regional communities. New Zealand culture is generally informal, community-minded and multicultural, with strong respect for work-life balance and outdoor recreation. Lifestyle costs are highest in Auckland, Wellington and Queenstown; smaller towns may offer cheaper housing but fewer services. International applicants should check whether their occupation and circumstances fit an Accredited Employer Work Visa, residence pathway or another visa category. Registration is not usually required for entry-level support work, but checks, references, English ability and relevant training may be requested. Arrange a job offer, visa, accommodation, transport and healthcare cover before relocating.
