The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but it is a popular Gulf destination with major opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, aviation, construction and business services. Dubai offers a multicultural lifestyle, modern transport, beaches, shopping, international dining and year-round events, although summers are extremely hot. Emirati culture values hospitality, family, respect and modest public behaviour; English is widely used, while Arabic is the official language. Most overseas employees need an employment residence visa sponsored by their employer. Employers commonly arrange medical testing, Emirates ID processing and, depending on the package, accommodation, transport and meals. Before relocating, confirm the written contract, salary, working hours, benefits, probation terms and visa sponsorship. Living costs can be high, especially for private accommodation, so employer housing or shared staff accommodation is valuable. Dubai has excellent services, but newcomers should budget carefully and follow local laws and customs.
