Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Johor and resort islands such as Perhentian, Redang and Tioman. Jobs are commonly available in hotels, restaurants, tourism, events, customer service and wellness. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences; English is widely used in hotels, while learning basic Malay is helpful. Kuala Lumpur provides modern city living, public transport, shopping and diverse food, although rent and traffic can be significant. Island and resort life is more relaxed but seasonal and often more expensive for supplies. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored employment pass or appropriate work permit before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary and role. Employers normally guide candidates through approval, medical checks and documentation. Arrange housing, insurance, banking and transport before relocating, and confirm whether accommodation, meals and service charge are included in the offer.
