Working in Malaysia

Penang is a well-connected Malaysian island known for George Town’s UNESCO-listed heritage streets, diverse Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Peranakan culture, and outstanding street food. Hospitality offers regular opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, events, tourism, and culinary operations, particularly for candidates with international hotel experience. Life is generally affordable compared with Kuala Lumpur, although central accommodation and popular areas can cost more. The island has a relaxed lifestyle, beaches, markets, shopping, cafés, and excellent public transport, with buses and ride-hailing services widely available. Malaysian is the official language, while English is commonly used in tourism and hotels. Foreign employees normally require an employer-sponsored Employment Pass or other appropriate work authorization before starting work. Employers typically handle the application, but approval depends on qualifications, salary, nationality, and current regulations. Candidates should confirm housing, medical coverage, transport, and visa support directly with the hotel before relocating.
