The Assistant Manager – Engineering supports the resort’s maintenance and engineering operations, helping ensure guest rooms, public areas, plant equipment, utilities and resort facilities remain safe, reliable and well maintained. Typical requirements include relevant qualifications or trade experience in engineering, electrical, mechanical, plumbing or building services, previous supervisory experience, good troubleshooting ability and knowledge of workplace health and safety. The successful candidate is expected to coordinate maintenance teams, respond promptly to breakdowns, manage preventive maintenance schedules, monitor contractors, control departmental costs and maintain accurate records. Strong communication, leadership, flexibility and a hands-on approach are important, as the role may involve shift work, weekends and emergency call-outs.
Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort is a major beachfront resort located on Denarau Island near Nadi, Fiji. It operates under the Sheraton brand, part of Marriott International, one of the world’s largest hospitality companies. The resort offers hotel accommodation, restaurants and bars, conference and event facilities, recreational activities, pools, spa services and access to golf and beach experiences. As a large integrated resort, it employs teams across rooms, food and beverage, engineering, guest services, finance, sales and recreation. Employees work in an international tourism environment serving leisure travellers, families, groups and business events. The engineering department is especially important because the property depends on continuous operation of guest facilities, utilities, air-conditioning, water systems, kitchens and public areas in Fiji’s tropical coastal climate.
Fiji offers hospitality, tourism, engineering, construction, healthcare, education, retail and marine-related opportunities, particularly around Nadi, Denarau, Suva and Lautoka. Fijian culture combines Indigenous iTaukei traditions, Indo-Fijian heritage and strong community values; respect, friendliness and participation in local customs are important. Life is generally relaxed, with beaches, diving, village visits, rugby and outdoor activities forming a major part of leisure time. Living costs vary, and accommodation near resort areas can be expensive, so employer-provided housing or allowances should be confirmed. Foreign workers normally need an approved work permit before starting employment, with the employer commonly supporting the application. Candidates should arrange a valid passport, employment contract, medical checks and relevant qualifications. Relocation to Fiji is attractive for those seeking a tropical lifestyle, but transport, imported goods and specialist services may cost more than expected.
