Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in hospitality, hotel sales, tourism, events, food and beverage, technology and international business, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences, and English is widely used in professional settings. Daily life can be affordable compared with many major global cities, with excellent food, shopping, public transport and easy access to beaches, rainforests and islands. Kuala Lumpur is urban and fast paced, while Langkawi and Penang provide a more relaxed island lifestyle. Foreign employees normally need an approved Employment Pass sponsored by their employer before starting work; requirements depend on salary, qualifications and role. Relocating candidates should arrange compliant employment documentation, suitable housing, health insurance and banking after arrival. Tropical weather is warm and humid year-round, with heavier rainfall during monsoon periods.
