Working in Australia

Australia is a large island country with varied hospitality opportunities in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, regional towns and resort destinations. Bartenders can find work in hotels, restaurants, bars, events and seasonal tourism operations, although competition is stronger in major cities. Australian workplace culture generally values punctuality, teamwork, clear communication, inclusiveness and work-life balance. Melbourne offers excellent dining, arts, sport and public transport, but housing can be expensive. Most overseas applicants need a valid work-authorised visa, such as a Working Holiday visa, employer-sponsored visa or another eligible temporary visa. Hospitality roles may require an RSA certificate, with rules varying by state. Before relocating, budget for accommodation, transport, health insurance and visa costs, verify employment conditions, and check tax, superannuation and right-to-work requirements.
