Working in United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but it is a popular destination for hospitality careers, especially in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Opportunities are available in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, events, retail and aviation. The culture combines Emirati traditions, Islamic values and a highly international population; modest dress and respectful behavior are expected in public and at work. Dubai offers a fast-paced lifestyle, beaches, shopping, entertainment and excellent transport, although housing and schooling can be expensive. Most expatriate employees require employer-sponsored residence and work visas. Employers commonly arrange medical testing, Emirates ID processing and sometimes accommodation, meals, transport or health insurance. Before relocating, confirm the written contract, salary, benefits, probation terms and visa sponsorship. Summer temperatures are extremely high, while winter is generally comfortable for outdoor activities.
