Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied work and lifestyle options across the peninsula and Borneo, from hospitality and tourism in Langkawi, Penang, Sabah, and Sarawak to technology, manufacturing, education, and services in Kuala Lumpur and Johor. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in workplaces. Living costs are moderate, though Kuala Lumpur and popular tourist islands can be more expensive. Malaysia has tropical weather, excellent food, modern shopping, and easy access to beaches, rainforests, and neighbouring countries. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored employment pass, with approval handled through Malaysian immigration authorities; requirements depend on nationality, salary, and role. Relocating usually involves arranging accommodation, medical checks, banking, transport, and health insurance. Johor is connected to Singapore and offers lower living costs than Singapore, making it attractive for hospitality professionals.
