Working in Qatar

Qatar is a modern peninsula rather than an island, with Doha as its main commercial and employment centre. Hospitality, construction, aviation, retail, healthcare, education, technology and energy offer many job opportunities, although employers usually prefer candidates with relevant experience and strong English skills. Qatar’s culture combines Islamic traditions with a highly international lifestyle. Residents enjoy malls, restaurants, museums, beaches, desert excursions and sporting events, while summers are extremely hot and humid. Alcohol is regulated, modest dress is expected in public places, and working weeks commonly include shifts and weekend duties. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work visa and residence permit; the employer generally arranges the process after contract approval and medical checks. Before relocating, confirm salary, accommodation, transport, insurance, leave, contract terms and recruitment fees. Doha provides good infrastructure and safety, but living costs can be high without employer-provided housing and meals.
