The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest concentration of aviation, finance, technology and service-sector jobs. The culture blends Arab traditions with a highly international lifestyle; respect for local customs, modest public behaviour and awareness of Islamic holidays are important. Residents enjoy modern shopping, restaurants, beaches, desert activities and reliable infrastructure, though summer temperatures are extremely high. Most expatriates require employer-sponsored residence and work visas, usually arranged after receiving a job offer. Employers commonly assist with medical checks, Emirates ID processing and relocation paperwork, but benefits should be confirmed in the contract. Housing, schooling and health insurance can be significant expenses. Public transport is strongest in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, while driving is common elsewhere.
