About the employer

Shangri-La Group is a major luxury hospitality company founded in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and North America. Its portfolio includes the Shangri-La, Kerry, JEN and Traders brands. The company is known for warm Asian hospitality, high service standards and professionally managed properties in major cities and resort destinations. In Malaysia, Shangri-La operates prominent hotels and resorts, including properties in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kota Kinabalu. Employees typically work in an international environment with opportunities to develop careers across hospitality disciplines. Benefits may include service charge, meals, uniforms, staff accommodation or allowances, medical coverage and hotel-rate privileges, although packages differ by property and employment contract.

Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, convention centres, restaurants, tourism and event management, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Johor. Island life in Langkawi or Penang is relaxed, multicultural and centred on beaches, food, heritage and outdoor activities, while resort work can involve long hours during peak seasons. Malay, English and Mandarin are widely used in hospitality, and cultural awareness is important when serving Malaysian, regional and international guests. Foreign employees normally need an employment pass sponsored by the employer; approval is required before starting work, and qualifications and salary must meet immigration conditions. Relocation costs, housing, transport and medical benefits should be confirmed in the offer. Malaysia has generally affordable living costs, but accommodation in tourist areas can be expensive. New arrivals should arrange a local bank account, tax registration and suitable health insurance.
