Working in Indonesia

Indonesia offers varied hospitality opportunities across Java, Bali, Sumatra, Lombok and the eastern islands. Jakarta, on Java, is the main corporate and MICE market, while Bali provides strong employment in resorts, events, restaurants and tourism. Other islands offer opportunities in resort operations, diving, wellness and destination management. Workplace culture is generally respectful and relationship-oriented; patience, modesty, punctuality and awareness of religious customs are important. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living in Jakarta to a slower beach or island environment, with affordable local food and diverse international communities. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and the appropriate limited-stay work visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers commonly assist with sponsorship, documentation and relocation, but benefits vary. Candidates should confirm housing, healthcare, tax, flights and permit responsibilities before accepting an offer. Learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly useful for daily life and client relationships.
