Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a dense, international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, surrounded by numerous smaller islands. It offers opportunities in hospitality, security, aviation, finance, retail, technology and logistics. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is commonly used in hotels and business settings. Life is fast-paced, convenient and highly urban, with excellent public transport, varied food, shopping, beaches and hiking trails. Rent can be expensive, especially near central districts, so many employees live in Kowloon or the New Territories and commute by MTR. Foreign nationals normally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer; the company generally provides the required contract and supporting documents. Security work may also require a local Security Personnel Permit and relevant approvals. Before relocating, confirm visa eligibility, licensing requirements, accommodation costs, medical coverage and shift arrangements with the employer.
