Typical requirements include a degree in hospitality, business, marketing, or a related field; substantial experience in hotel sales, business development, or commercial leadership; and a strong understanding of the Philippine hospitality and tourism market. The successful candidate should be confident managing key accounts, developing market strategies, negotiating contracts, preparing budgets and forecasts, and leading sales activities across local and international markets. Experience with luxury hotels, resort operations, and revenue-focused systems would be an advantage.
Shangri-La Group is a leading luxury hospitality company founded in Hong Kong, with hotels, resorts, residences, and related businesses across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and other major destinations. Its portfolio includes the Shangri-La, Kerry, JEN, and Traders brands. The company is known for warm Asian hospitality, high service standards, premium accommodation, restaurants, wellness facilities, and destination experiences. In the Philippines, Shangri-La operates prominent properties including Shangri-La The Fort in Manila, Edsa Shangri-La, and Shangri-La Boracay. Employees typically work in an international environment serving business travelers, families, groups, and luxury leisure guests. Commercial leaders are expected to protect the brand’s reputation while building strong relationships with corporate clients, travel partners, event organizers, and local communities.
The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands, with major employment hubs in Metro Manila, Cebu, Boracay, and other resort destinations. Hospitality opportunities are available in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism companies, airlines, and events, although senior roles usually require strong industry experience and professional networks. Filipino culture is friendly, family-oriented, community-minded, and influenced by Malay, Spanish, American, and regional traditions. Lifestyle varies from fast-paced city living to relaxed coastal communities, with generally warm weather, varied food, beaches, diving, and outdoor activities. English is widely used in business. Foreign nationals normally need employer sponsorship, an Alien Employment Permit, and an appropriate work visa, commonly a 9(g) pre-arranged employee visa. Relocation costs, housing, healthcare, and school arrangements should be discussed with the employer, particularly for island properties where transport and services may be more limited.
