Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a compact, international city with excellent transport, a dense urban core and easy access to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Hospitality offers opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, events, tourism, retail and family entertainment, although competition can be strong. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences; English is widely used in business, while Cantonese and Mandarin are valuable advantages. Lifestyle is energetic and convenient, but accommodation can be expensive and space is limited. Foreign employees generally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong company, normally requiring a confirmed offer and evidence that the role and qualifications meet immigration requirements. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, health coverage, banking and an identity card promptly. Public transport is reliable, and most districts are well connected without a car.
