Working in Singapore

Singapore is a compact, highly connected city-state with opportunities in hospitality, tourism, retail, finance, technology, healthcare and logistics. The culture is multicultural, orderly and respectful, with English widely used at work alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Life is convenient, safe and efficient, although accommodation and dining costs can be high. Public transport is excellent, and areas such as Orchard, Marina Bay, Bugis and Sentosa offer shopping, entertainment and attractions. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass. The appropriate pass depends on salary, qualifications and the role; employers usually manage the application through Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower. Security positions may also require licensing or approval under local regulations, so candidates should confirm requirements before accepting an offer. New arrivals should budget for rent, transport, insurance and deposits, and check employment terms, shift patterns and accommodation arrangements carefully.
