Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a fast-paced international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with excellent opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, tourism and luxury retail. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences, and food, festivals and efficient public transport are central to daily life. Chefs can enjoy a wide range of cuisines, busy professional kitchens and strong career mobility, though rent and living costs are high. Many employers provide staff meals, uniforms, medical coverage or accommodation assistance, so these should be checked before accepting an offer. Overseas workers generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa, commonly under the General Employment Policy, and must obtain approval before starting work. A valid passport, qualifications, employment contract and relevant experience are normally required. New arrivals should budget for housing deposits, transport and initial expenses.
