Hong Kong is a compact, highly connected city with major employment opportunities in hotels, finance, retail, aviation, logistics, technology, healthcare and education. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, and daily life offers excellent food, shopping, hiking, beaches and efficient public transport. Living costs are high, especially rent, although employer accommodation or housing allowances may be available in hospitality roles. Hong Kong has a subtropical climate, busy urban neighbourhoods and easy access to islands and mainland hiking areas. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored visa before starting work; the employer must demonstrate a genuine position and suitable terms, while applicants provide qualifications and experience. Dependants may often apply under a dependant visa. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, an identity card, banking, insurance and local transport access. Cantonese is valuable for security and guest-facing work, while English is widely used professionally.
