Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a compact, highly connected coastal city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with many outlying islands nearby. Hospitality opportunities are available in luxury hotels, restaurants, clubs, events, catering and tourism, although competition is strong and working hours can be demanding. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international business and excellent food, while daily life offers efficient public transport, lively neighbourhoods, hiking trails and a fast-paced urban lifestyle. Employees usually need an employer-sponsored employment visa before starting work; the employer must demonstrate a genuine vacancy and suitable terms. Overseas applicants should confirm visa eligibility, medical or document requirements and accommodation arrangements. Housing is expensive, so many workers share apartments or live farther from central districts. Public transport is reliable, and an Octopus card is useful for everyday travel.
