The company is known for warm Asian hospitality, personalised guest service and high standards across accommodation, dining, meetings, wellness and leisure operations. Shangri-La places strong emphasis on service culture, colleague development, operational excellence and creating memorable guest experiences. Depending on the property, employees may work with international guests, corporate accounts, wedding planners, destination-management companies and major event organisers. The group commonly offers training, staff benefits and opportunities for internal mobility, although compensation and benefits vary by hotel, location, experience and applicable service-charge arrangements.

Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, events, tourism, aviation and retail, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and coastal resort areas. Its island destinations combine beaches, rainforest, diving and relaxed lifestyles, while cities provide stronger transport, healthcare and career options. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals and daily life. English is widely used in hospitality, although Malay is the official language. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the hiring company normally manages the application and immigration process before work begins. Requirements depend on nationality, qualifications, salary and role. Relocating staff should budget for housing, transport, insurance and deposits, and confirm whether accommodation, meals, flights or medical coverage are included. Tropical weather, monsoon seasons and differing island access should also be considered when choosing a posting.
