Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with excellent public transport and a wide range of hotel, restaurant, retail, finance and professional-services jobs. Hospitality opportunities are strongest in luxury hotels, restaurants, events and tourism, although competition can be high. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; politeness, efficiency and respect for hierarchy are valued at work. Lifestyle options include beaches, hiking trails, dining, shopping and a lively arts scene, but housing is expensive and apartments are often small. Foreign employees normally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer before starting work. Applicants should prepare a valid passport, employment contract, proof of qualifications and relevant experience. Employers generally assist with the application. Research accommodation, transport costs, healthcare and tax obligations before relocating.
