Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, events and corporate sales. Major hospitality markets include Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and the islands of Sabah and Sarawak. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business and tourism. Lifestyle ranges from busy city living to relaxed coastal communities, with excellent food, tropical weather and generally affordable daily costs compared with many major global cities. Foreign nationals normally need an employment pass sponsored by the hiring company; eligibility, approval and medical requirements depend on the role and nationality. Employers usually handle much of the application process. Relocation costs, housing, insurance and dependent permissions should be confirmed in the offer. Malaysia’s climate is hot and humid year-round, with monsoon conditions varying by coast, so island placements may have seasonal travel and weather considerations.
