About the employer

Shangri-La is a global luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and related properties across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other markets. The company is recognised for its Asian-inspired service culture, comfortable accommodation, restaurants, wellness facilities and extensive meeting and event services. Shangri-La properties serve leisure travellers, families, business guests and groups, with a strong emphasis on personalised hospitality and high service standards. In Malaysia, the group has operated well-known city hotels and island or resort destinations, providing opportunities across front office, food and beverage, sales, marketing, events, finance, engineering and guest services. Employees generally work in multicultural teams and are expected to demonstrate professionalism, warmth, teamwork and attention to detail.

Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, tourism, retail, education, technology and business services. Island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Pangkor, Tioman and the Perhentian Islands are popular for hospitality, marine tourism and leisure, while Kuala Lumpur and larger cities provide broader corporate employment. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in tourism and business, alongside Malay. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to relaxed beach communities, with generally affordable food and transport, although island housing and imported goods can cost more. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass, and the employer typically handles much of the application process. Before relocating, candidates should confirm visa eligibility, accommodation, healthcare, taxation, contract terms and transport arrangements, particularly for resort locations.
