Hong Kong is a compact, highly urbanised territory made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with many outlying islands nearby. It offers employment in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, logistics, healthcare and professional services. Cantonese is the main local language, while English is widely used in business and hotels; Mandarin is also common. Life is fast-paced, convenient and cosmopolitan, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, beaches, hiking trails and a vibrant cultural scene. Rent can be expensive, especially near Central and popular districts, so shared accommodation or living farther from the city centre may be practical. Foreign professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by an eligible employer, while dependants may qualify for dependant visas. Applicants should confirm current Immigration Department requirements, arrange accommodation and budget for deposits, transport and healthcare before relocating.
