About the employer

Shangri-La Group is a prominent luxury hospitality company headquartered in Hong Kong. It operates hotels, resorts and related properties across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets under the Shangri-La, Kerry, JEN and Traders brands. The group is known for premium accommodation, high service standards, restaurants, meeting facilities and resort experiences. Its corporate functions support a geographically diverse portfolio involving hotel operations, property development, commercial partnerships, employment matters and regulatory compliance. Shangri-La employs people in guest services as well as finance, technology, engineering, sales and legal roles. A corporate counsel working for the group would typically advise multiple business units and jurisdictions, balancing legal risk with practical commercial objectives in a fast-moving, internationally focused hospitality environment.

Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic international city with a strong finance, legal, technology, trading and hospitality job market. English is widely used in professional settings, while Cantonese is dominant in daily life and Mandarin is also useful. The culture combines Chinese traditions, global influences, excellent food and a demanding but rewarding work environment. Residents enjoy efficient public transport, dense urban neighborhoods, shopping, hiking, beaches and nearby islands such as Lantau and Cheung Chau. Housing is expensive, particularly on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon, so many professionals compare commute time with rental cost. Overseas hires generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa under the General Employment Policy and must demonstrate a suitable job, qualifications and experience. A valid offer, passport and supporting documents are required; dependants may usually apply for dependant visas. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, a Hong Kong identity card and local banking and tax registration.
