The Senior Corporate Counsel will provide legal advice to Shangri-La’s corporate and operational teams, with a focus on commercial contracts, hotel management and development agreements, corporate governance, compliance, risk management, and dispute support. The role typically requires a Hong Kong practising certificate or qualification in a recognised common-law jurisdiction, strong experience in commercial and corporate law, and preferably an in-house background in hospitality, real estate, or a multinational organisation. The successful candidate should demonstrate sound judgement, excellent drafting and negotiation skills, commercial awareness, confidentiality, and the ability to work independently while advising stakeholders across different countries and cultures.
Shangri-La Group is a Hong Kong-based luxury hospitality company with a global portfolio of hotels, resorts, and related businesses. Founded in 1971, the group operates properties under brands including Shangri-La, Kerry Hotels, JEN, and Traders across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and other international markets. Its business covers hotel ownership, management, development, and hospitality services. Shangri-La is known for Asian-inspired service, premium accommodation, extensive food and beverage operations, and resort experiences. The company employs colleagues from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds and supports corporate functions such as legal, finance, human resources, technology, development, and operations. A corporate counsel role in Hong Kong would support the group’s regional or global activities while working closely with senior management, business units, external advisers, and hotel operations.
Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in legal, finance, hospitality, technology, property, trading, and professional services. Its business culture is fast-paced, international, relationship-driven, and influenced by both Chinese and global practices. Lifestyle options range from dense urban districts and excellent restaurants to hiking trails, beaches, and outlying islands. Public transport is highly efficient, although housing can be expensive, particularly near Central and major business areas. Most overseas professionals require an employment visa, commonly sponsored by the hiring company, and must show relevant qualifications, experience, and a confirmed job offer. Dependants may usually apply for visas linked to the principal applicant. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, healthcare coverage, banking, tax registration, and local identity documentation. Cantonese is widely spoken, English is common in business, and Mandarin is increasingly useful.
