Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, security, retail, finance, technology, logistics and professional services. The city combines Chinese traditions with international influences, and Cantonese, English and Mandarin are widely used in workplaces. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, dense urban neighbourhoods, diverse food, shopping, hiking and beaches. Housing is expensive, so many newcomers share accommodation or live in areas outside the central districts. Foreign employees generally need an appropriate employment visa arranged with employer support; eligibility depends on qualifications, salary and the role, while employers normally handle much of the application process. New arrivals should budget for deposits, insurance, transport and daily expenses, and confirm whether accommodation, meals or staff benefits are included. Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories offer different lifestyles, from central high-rise living to quieter suburban communities.
