The Learning & Development Manager is responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating training programmes that strengthen employee skills, service standards and career development. Requirements typically include a degree or diploma in human resources, hospitality, education or a related field, together with several years of training or hotel operations experience. The successful candidate should understand adult learning principles, training needs analysis, performance development and compliance requirements. Strong communication, presentation, coaching and organisational skills are essential. Experience in a luxury hotel or international hospitality brand is advantageous. The candidate is expected to work closely with department heads, support onboarding, maintain training records, measure programme effectiveness and promote Shangri-La’s service culture.
Shangri-La Group is a leading luxury hospitality company headquartered in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. In Malaysia, Shangri-La operates well-known properties including Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur, Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur and resort hotels in destinations such as Penang and Sabah. Malaysia offers hospitality and training opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and other resort destinations. Roles are available in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, events and corporate learning, with international brands often providing structured career paths. Malaysian culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, and English is widely used in business and tourism. Lifestyle costs are generally moderate, although Kuala Lumpur and popular islands can be more expensive. Langkawi provides a relaxed island lifestyle, while Penang offers heritage, food and city conveniences; Sabah is known for nature and adventure. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with approval handled through the company and Malaysian authorities. Candidates should confirm visa eligibility, accommodation, insurance, tax obligations and relocation support before accepting an offer. Malaysia’s tropical climate, welcoming communities and strong tourism sector make it an attractive relocation choice.
