Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotel engineering, facilities management, construction, manufacturing, tourism and property services, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and resort islands. Island life in Langkawi or Penang is relaxed and multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals and daily life. Living costs are generally moderate, although resort locations can be more expensive and seasonal. Expect warm, humid weather, strong local cuisine, beaches and an easygoing social lifestyle. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the company handling approval and immigration procedures; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and role. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, medical coverage, meals, service charges and relocation assistance before accepting a resort position. Basic Malay is useful, while English is widely used in hotels and professional workplaces.
