Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong employment opportunities in hotels, restaurants, retail, finance, logistics, technology and tourism. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, and English is widely used in business and hospitality, while Cantonese is valuable for daily life. Housing can be expensive and compact, but public transport is efficient, reliable and extensive. The city provides excellent food, shopping, healthcare and access to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Foreign workers normally need an approved employment visa sponsored by an employer before starting work; eligibility depends on qualifications, experience, salary and whether the role cannot readily be filled locally. Employers may assist with visa applications, medical checks and relocation guidance. New arrivals should budget carefully for rent, deposits, transport and utilities, and confirm accommodation, working hours, benefits and visa sponsorship in the employment contract.
