Working in Fiji

Fiji offers opportunities in banking, tourism, hospitality, construction, telecommunications, education, healthcare, agriculture and technology. Suva is the main professional and government centre, while Nadi and Lautoka have strong tourism and commercial activity. Fijian culture is welcoming and community-oriented, blending Indigenous iTaukei traditions with Indo-Fijian influences. English is widely used in business, alongside iTaukei and Hindi. Lifestyle is relaxed, with warm weather, beaches, outdoor activities and a generally social atmosphere, although imported goods and housing in central Suva can be expensive. Foreign nationals usually need an appropriate work permit before starting employment; employers commonly support the application, and requirements depend on the position and nationality. Prospective employees should confirm visa rules, salary taxation, healthcare arrangements, accommodation and relocation assistance directly with ANZ and Fiji’s immigration authorities.
