Working in Fiji

Fiji offers employment opportunities in tourism, hospitality, aviation, retail, construction, agriculture, education, healthcare, telecommunications and financial services. Suva is the main administrative and business centre, while Nadi and Denarau are stronger tourism hubs. Fijian culture is welcoming and community-focused, with iTaukei traditions, Indo-Fijian heritage, church life, music, sport and shared meals playing an important role. The lifestyle is relaxed, warm and outdoors-oriented, with beaches, diving, hiking and island travel readily accessible, although imported goods and housing in popular areas can be costly. Foreign nationals generally need an approved work permit before starting employment; employers commonly support the application, and requirements depend on nationality, occupation and contract. Relocating workers should arrange employment, accommodation, health insurance, document certification and school planning before arrival. Suva is more urban and rainy, while western Viti Levu is sunnier and more tourism-focused.
