Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in banking, asset management, fintech, insurance, consulting, trade and professional services, with major employment hubs in Central, Admiralty, Quarry Bay and Kowloon. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions, international business practices, efficient public services and a fast-paced professional lifestyle. Residents enjoy excellent restaurants, shopping, arts, hiking trails, beaches and efficient MTR transport, although housing is expensive and living space can be limited. Eligible professionals commonly use the General Employment Policy visa, which generally requires a confirmed job, suitable qualifications or experience, market-level pay and no local-workforce displacement concern. Employers often assist with visa sponsorship and relocation, but applicants should confirm eligibility and dependent arrangements with Hong Kong Immigration. International hires should budget for rent, health insurance, deposits and schooling where relevant. Cantonese is valuable for local integration, while English is widely used in finance and Mandarin can help with mainland client coverage.
