The Director, FIG (Banks) Relationship role manages ANZ’s relationships with banks and other financial institutions across Australia and potentially international markets. Requirements typically include substantial institutional banking experience, strong knowledge of financial institutions, credit and risk assessment capability, and a proven record in relationship management or business development. The successful candidate is expected to build senior-level client relationships, identify opportunities, develop and execute account plans, coordinate internal product specialists, negotiate commercial outcomes, and maintain high standards of risk, compliance and conduct. Strong communication, strategic thinking, financial analysis, stakeholder management and networking skills are essential. Experience working with major banks, regional banks or non-bank financial institutions would be advantageous.
ANZ, or Australia and New Zealand Banking Group, is one of Australia’s major banking institutions, serving retail, business, corporate and institutional customers. Headquartered in Melbourne, ANZ operates across Australia, New Zealand and selected international markets. Its services include everyday banking, home and personal lending, business finance, institutional banking, payments, markets and wealth-related solutions. ANZ works with governments, large corporations, financial institutions and privately owned businesses, supporting trade, investment and economic activity. The bank has a strong focus on digital banking, responsible business practices, risk management and customer outcomes. Its institutional division provides financing, transaction banking, markets, advisory and relationship services to major organisations and financial institutions. Employees generally work in a structured, highly regulated environment where collaboration, integrity, commercial judgement and long-term client relationships are important.
Australia offers strong opportunities in banking, finance, technology, healthcare, engineering, education, construction, mining and professional services. Sydney and Melbourne are the main financial centres, while Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide also provide growing employment markets. Australian workplaces are generally informal, collaborative and respectful of work-life balance, although senior banking roles can involve demanding hours and significant accountability. Lifestyle options range from major-city dining and culture to beaches, national parks and outdoor activities. Skilled professionals may qualify for employer-sponsored, independent skilled or state-nominated visas, depending on occupation, experience, qualifications and eligibility. A job offer, skills assessment, English-language evidence and health and character checks may be required. Relocating involves planning for housing, taxation, healthcare, transportation and school arrangements. Living costs, particularly in Sydney and Melbourne, can be high, so salary, bonus, location and visa support should be assessed carefully.
