Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in banking, shared services, technology, software development, cybersecurity, data, engineering, healthcare, education, tourism and manufacturing. Kuala Lumpur and Greater Kuala Lumpur are the main hubs for international employers, including banks such as UOB, while Penang and Johor also have active technology and industrial markets. The culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English widely used in professional settings. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with Singapore, although central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. Malaysia has tropical weather, varied food, modern shopping areas and easy access to beaches and islands. Foreign professionals generally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with approval and salary requirements depending on the role. Relocating is easiest with a valid job offer, medical documentation, recognised qualifications and suitable accommodation arranged in advance.
