Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in technology delivery, cloud computing, AI, cybersecurity, SAP, software engineering and shared services, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor. Its islands and coastal areas, including Langkawi, Penang, Tioman and the Perhentians, provide an appealing lifestyle with beaches, nature, diving and relaxed weekend travel. Malaysian culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English commonly used in professional workplaces. Living costs are generally lower than in Singapore or major Western cities, although central Kuala Lumpur rents can be significant. Foreign professionals usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process; dependants may qualify for related passes. Before relocating, check current immigration rules, healthcare coverage, taxation, housing and school arrangements. Malaysia is warm year-round, so lightweight clothing and awareness of monsoon seasons are useful.
